After two years of dedicated and persistent advocacy by ADI, dementia will, for the first time, be formally recognised within the new UN Political Declaration on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health, as a leading NCD.
The 78th World Health Assembly has been a whirlwind week for ADI as, after 18-months of advocacy, the World Health Assembly has agreed to extend the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia by 6-years, to 2031.

November 2025 saw a plethora of activity across the European region. From engagements in Ibiza, Reykjavík and Manchester, UK. ADI took part in key events with its members throughout the region to promote greater awareness and activity, towards addressing the growing burden of dementia.
From 17 to 21 November, ADI CEO Paola Barbarino joined Regional Director for the Asia Pacific, DY Suharya and Head of Accreditation Amalia Fonk-Utomo in Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR for a week of important meetings, regional activities, and the ADI APRO Members Regional Conference.
ADI welcomes the approval of Peru’s National Plan for the Prevention and Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias 2026–2028, officially validated by the Ministry of Health through a newly published ministerial resolution. This landmark decision places dementia firmly on Peru’s national health agenda and opens the door to implementation after years of dedicated advocacy from civil society, academia, and key partners.
From Switzerland to Italy, ADI has taken part in key engagements on the European continent that convened industry leaders, clinicians, specialists, researchers, regulators, policymakers, advocates, people living with dementia and their carers to bring new insights and strategies to light.
This month marks major progress for dementia policy across Latin America, with Argentina and Brazil both advancing toward the establishment of their first national dementia plans.. At the end of the month, Regional Director for the Americas, Diego Aguilar also joined the 6th Meeting of the Regional Conference on Population and Development of Latin America and the Caribbean, organised by ECLAC and UNFPA in Santiago de Chile. Together, these milestones and international meetings reflect a growing regional commitment to addressing dementia as a public health and human rights priority.
This September our global community has come together once again to partake in worldwide awareness-raising campaigns around dementia and Alzheimer’s. From Bermuda to Zimbabwe to Scotland and Sri Lanka, ADI’s member organisations have hosted powerful community events and have encouraged people all over the world to ask about dementia, and ask about Alzheimer’s. Some of ADI’s World Alzheimer's Month activities included the launch of the 2025 World Alzheimer Report and a side event co-hosted with the WHO at the United Nations General Assembly ahead of the 4th High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases.
